Hello, fellow Sleepy UFOs! (or not) — look, — I love, love, LOVE listening to music — whatever mood you’re in, or whatever emotion you’re feeling? Someone brilliant somewhere has probably felt the same thing already, and made poetry-in-music with it, in a way that I/we can’t. (Unless you’re one of ‘em brilliant musicians. :p )
Anyway, this is going to be ambitious — I’m going to make a weekly blog post about some of the songs that I’ve heard on the radio/ been recommended by friends / discovered by accident that will have been on-repeat listens over the week, for the reasons:
1.) to maybe help you find something you like but didn’t know about,
2.) to infect you with my horrible taste in music,
3.) Last.FM’s failed me. :( I do miss the recommends, and well,
4.) maybe you could pitch in and leave a comment about a new song that I haven’t heard about (and might like).
Discovery through others, beybeh. :p
Sound good? Let’s begin! (Until I find a method to share this more efficiently, I’ll be posting up some YouTubes/Deezer/imeem/what-have-you.)
Florence and the Machine – Kiss with a Fist
As recommended by the alarmingly-delightful / delightfully-alarming Cheekie, I love Florence and the Machine now. Here’s a song about kissing with fists — which sorta reminds me of Rihanna’s “Breaking Dishes.” (The lyrics) Songs about girls beating boys up.
PlayRadioPlay! – Even Fairy Tale Characters Would Be Jealous
Hey, if even fairy tale characters would be jealous, it’s gotta be diabetes-sweet, right?
FrankMusik – Every Breath You Take
The first of many, many cover songs I’ll be posting. I love cover songs that give the original words a new sound. This one takes a bit of getting used to, but after 3 or so listens, you might love it, too. Also, this is The Police we’re talking about!
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Zero
Cheekie told me ’bout this too — only, I think I’ve heard this on the radio, maybe? The new Yeah Yeah Yeahs stuff? Really, really GOOD.

Stars – This Charming Man
The Smiths, relaxing? Only when Stars covers ‘em!
Xiu Xiu – Fast Car
I like Xiu Xiu quite a bit — and yes, he sings like that EVERY time! This one worked out for him so well though — gives Fast Car a whole new sadness. (Another cover!)
Stars – Krush
Because I LOVE Stars. ’Nuff said.
The Black Kids – I’m Not Going to Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You
I won’t even dissect the lyrics — this is just pure EARCANDY.
Cut Copy – Strangers in the Wind
Cut Copy is just fantastic — and this one’s from their latest album, “In Ghost Colours” the sort-of-but-not-quite 80′s tribute. Listen closely…
The Rakes – 1989
See what’s going on here? I just mentioned the 80′s, then we have a song titled “1989″ by The Rakes. What sells this for me is the “La la la” part.
Passion Pit – The Reeling
This has GOT to be my favorite of the week. From the opening part to the chorus? Just the sort of thing I would love — then I saw the video! FANTASTIQUE!
So there! There’s the first weekly playlist — love it/hate it? I would love it if you could recommend something new — you could leave it in the comments section as well. Discovery through others, o yeh!
