I’m a Star Wars fan — and I loved it. Does this make me a traitor to the faith? (The Force, of course)

Then again, I won’t even go into that, because there’s just so much to love about Abrams’ Star Trek: great cast, good story (an origin story, of sorts) and fantastic visuals.
Chris Pine’s Kirk is just so goddamned cavalier, Quinto’s Spock so … inhuman and Urban’s “Bones” so … “dammit, man” that it’s hard not to be impressed. That even goes without saying how fantastic John Cho is as Sulu, with a little reference to “The Naked Time.” (Thanks for the info, Mikko!) And well, basically, Pegg’s Scotty saves the universe. Lastly, Bana’s Nero is just a terrific villain to have for this first “new” “new” Trek outing — just the right amount of crazy, time-and-space traversing terror you’d want the new arrogant captain to face off and match wits with. (Pine’s Kirk’s idea of diplomacy is getting socked in the face, then presenting his way — brilliant.)
If you stayed ’til the end of the credits (which seems to be the trend nowadays), you will notice that the great effects? — ILM. So the same technology that makes onscreen lightsabers? They’re the same stuff that makes the Enterprise look so good.
Here’s to looking forward to more of these Abrams-Trek movies — the only thing I think that could match this feeling right now would be a Whedon-Star Wars. Then again, there’s Firefly already. :p
Watch it NOW.
