Rooting and flashing an android device is addicting.
Once you’ve done it, you will wonder about features that another custom ROM has.
I’m on my third custom ROM and it still isn’t enough. Another flash perhaps?

This is the ODIN flash that rooted my phone. I thought it’d boost my battery but instead it seemed like it was eating charge worse than the stock ROM. Stuck with it for a week.
Batista70 3.7.7: (gingerbread version 2.3.4 just before the KI3 update)
This one stuck a bit longer. Froze bloatware with AntTek App Manager. Battery life seemed better in comparison to the Lite’ning ROM. LCD density is set lower (or higher?) which makes more stuff fit on the screen. Simple music player has a nice widget. Modified TouchWiz UI is fast. Undervolt settings are built-in. I got some random reboots, like twice in 3 days? (I don’t know what triggers them.)
This is the ROM I’m currently on for less than 3 days. Battery performance seems to be the same as stock. Might try flashing latest Criskelo (after a few more backreads of the xda thread, I might mess something up) if I’m not too happy with this one. LCD density reverted to stock.
Until I find the best ROM that prolongs my battery, I might keep flashing. (Or, I may try to recover the backup I did with CWM, just so I could try backup recovery.)
NEXT STEP: mixing and matching ROMs and kernels. (probably dangerous)

In other news, (and this is silly)
I tried out Launcher 7 just to get a feel for how Windows Phone 7 phones operate — and the silly part is: the minimalistic launcher (which, by default, did not have widgets etc) combined with a simple black background actually prolonged my battery a little.

[UPDATE: 10/02/2011 6:26PM]
I flashed again. I seem to be getting better at retrieving contacts. I wonder why tied SNS accounts won’t sync with Google’s backup? Also, SyncMyPix helps for Facebook accounts that won’t show profile pictures. Also, SMS Backup + + Titanium Backup makes retrieving data a breeze. (I could restore dialed/missed calls + SMS threads!)
Anyway, I couldn’t stand the … stock-ness (slow) of TouchWiz on Cognition S2 (to be fair, the last update has been over a month old, so it doesn’t have the new … feature things yet). I flashed CriskeloRomV22 — and its custom TouchWiz is fast! It’s almost as fast (if not faster) than Batista70′s (and to be fair I haven’t tried out the latest version of Batista yet). If I get tired of that, I could always revert to LauncherPro or Launcher7.
Battery performance seems to be doing okay, but it’s been less than a day, so I can’t really claim that for sure.
I like the built-in effects, I like that it’s using Ninphetemine 2.1.3 (which might be the leading cause for battery awesomeness?) and now all that’s left is an awful lot of backreading to maybe get into undervolting and getting even more out of my device.
One little snag about this ROM: upon flashing, it was set to a different language. Thankfully, the icons in the settings menu was helpful enough.
