From Google:
2008 Year-End Google Zeitgeist
As the year comes to a close, it’s time to look at the big events, memorable moments and emerging trends that captivated us in 2008. As it happens, studying the aggregation of the billions of search queries that people type into the Google search box gives us a glimpse into the zeitgeist — the spirit of the times. We’ve compiled some of the highlights from Google searches around the globe and hope you enjoy looking back as much as we do.
The number one fastest-rising (global) search query? Sarah Palin.
She might not have won the elections, but she sure ranks up there in Google. (Obama’s number 6, just behind the elections, Facebook and Heath Ledger) I might have something to do with that… then again, I won’t link you to stuff from my previous work. :p
When you think about it though, she was a candidate for THE US ELECTION — how come the whole world came looking for Ms. Palin? It makes you think how the whole world’s curious about what’s going on in the other side. — Or, alternatively, it could’ve been the blowing of kisses, the “youbetchas” and the winking during the debates.
