little girl joins the dark side.

You’d think that the juxtaposition of little children + the dark side would equal to horrible children, but no, it makes them quite adorable, really. Remember the VW Vader ad months ago? Though this clip demonstrates a children’s recognition of which side of the force she wants to join:

It’s the kneeling bit that caught Mace Windu/Vader off-guard. It’s also the best part.

Here’s hoping all my future children become as awesome and unafraid to express her opinion (or true side, in terms of Jedi/Sith alignment) as her.

Pixelated Blood – 500+ Fatalities

Mortal Kombat 9, or more simply known as Mortal Kombat will be coming out in the coming weeks, which is why YouTuber BigBangBlitz created the most epic compilation of fatalities in video form. It includes fatalities from Mortal Kombat, and the clones that were inspired by it.

Welcome to the 90′s:

It runs for nearly 2 hours!

For optimum viewing, watch in HD, with annotations. Maaan, business was booming in the mo-cap industry then: apply for a mo-cap job, end up as a fighting game character. Thanks, MK!

Games included, from the video’s description:

BlazBlue: 0:01:43, Bloodstorm: 0:08:28, Blood Warrior: 0:09:56, Clayfighter: 0:11:48, Cosmic Carnage: 0:19:08, Double Dragon V: 0:19:47, Eternal Champions: 0:21:20, Guilty Gear: 0:38:51, Hokuto No Ken: 0:47:04, Fists of Fire: 0:50:58, Kasumi Ninja: 0:52:47, Killer Instinct: 0:54:20, Mortal Kombat: 1:01:30, Pray for Death: 1:17:11, Primal Rage: 1:20:02, Samurai Showdown: 1:23:26, Time Killers: 1:37:14, Timeslaughter: 1:38:16, Ultra Vortek: 1:40:02, Way of the Warrior: 1:43:30, Weaponlord: 1:48:51, WWF: 1:51:04, Xenophage: 1:52:16

Of particular WTF interest are: Kasumi Ninja 0:52:47, Pray for Death 1:17:11, Way of the Warrior (by Naughty Dog!) 1:43:3.

mortal kombat demo!

I only got to play the Mortal Kombat demo earlier — even if it’s been out for a coupla weeks now. Here’s a video playthrough (not me) of what happens when you finish the demo:

Here’s what I liked:

  • a return to MK’s violent roots
  • custom combos!
  • FATALITIES!

What I didn’t like but expect will get better by the April 19 release:

  • X-Ray moves (Not too impressed by them … yet. It appears too easy to pull off, easy to evade, is not interactive, and there’s only one per character at the moment.)

Looking forward to playing with Noob Saibot and Ermac. Which characters are you looking forward to playing with?

the sleepy UFO 5

The 2009 ambition for a weekly sleepy UFO post has nothing on this playlist. I mean, honestly, my sense for this sort of thing has probably only gotten better — I’m probably more efficient at filtering out what I like from the hot, sweaty mess of music recommendations. Then again, I still habitually play out the sad bastard tunes (random thought: wouldn’t it be been bad-ass if Captain America was one of the Inglorious Basterds?) every now and then. And, and, and — sometimes — sometimes I even play it out over some Rainymood. (will it make any of these other songs better? try it out and maybe tell me.)

So here are some of the good ear-candy, in no absolute particular order — make a game out of it, skip ahead to the song at the bottom, or maybe the middle. Mileage may vary. Or not. Maybe.

For optimum enjoyment, turn ALL the knobs in the direction where sound will become the loudest. Your neighbors/officemates will love you for it, I shit you not! Better yet, do that while wearing headphones! :D

Your browser will hate me for the number of YouTube embeds I have here. (I secretly envy you if you are about to hear any of these songs for the first time.)

Friends – Friend Crush

Warm post-disco disco-pop, plus those vocals. Wow. I could only find this live performance from the YouTubes, so if you want to hear the record version of this, check out STEREOGUM’s Band to Watch feature on them. (and download the mp3!)

The Strokes ft. Elvis Costello – Taken for a Fool

The surprise Costello was a nice touch, hopefully there’s a nicer version out there? Machu Picchu is still my favorite track from Angles, so maybe check that one out too. (then listen to it on repeat, obsessively.)

Cults – You Know What I Mean

This is my favorite song at the moment. I know it starts out very JS-prom-y, but look out for 0:49 — then look down at the floor. Are those your panties? If not, wear a pair, and get ‘em dropped!
