Have you noticed the link “New! Video chat” inside your GMail?
This is a nifty new feature they chose to integrate into the existing GTalk thing — plus, the cool thing is you only have to install the voice and video plugin and you’re all set; no clients, no software downloads etc.

The video pops up in the lower-right corner of your main GMail screen, and acts more or less like Skype — free voice/video calls over the net.

As active as my GTalk life is (could be), the person you want to video chat with has to have the plugins installed too. This will be indicated by a new icon beside their name in the chat box.
It works for PCs and Macs, and it utilizes several open standards — which basically means support for voice/video chat could become a new feature from that third-party GTalk application you’re using.
I’ll post more once I do get to test it.
